Vivah 2.0! Bride falls ill ahead of wedding, gets married in hospital ward | Trending News

Much like Poonam and Prem (played by Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor, respectively) in Sooraj Barjatya’s Hindi film Vivah, a real-life couple got married inside a hospital ward in Durgapur, West Bengal recently. The bride fell ill just ahead of her wedding and decided not to postpone her wedding.
According to reports, the bride and the groom’s families fixed the wedding date two years ago. When the bride suffered stomach ache two days before the wedding, the families did not want to reschedule the date as most of the relatives had already reached the wedding destination.
This is not the first time that a couple decided to beat the odds and tied the knot. In November 2023, a groom who was hospitalised four days before his wedding due to dengue got married at Max Hospital in Vaishali, Ghaziabad. Reports said both families planned the wedding at the same ‘mahurat’ at the hospital. The video of the couple getting married won hearts on social media.

In February this year, a Missouri couple got married hours before welcoming their first child. According to People magazine, Sara and Brandon Perry planned to exchange vows two days after Valentine’s Day. However, the 35-week pregnant Sara went into labour on February 13.
Saint Luke’s East Hospital shared the story on Facebook, revealing Sara wore a bedsheet dress and a gauze veil for the wedding.
