Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 17-km-long Duhai to Modi Nagar North RRTS section for passenger operations through video conferencing from Kolkata on Wednesday.
This extension comprises three stations: Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North. With this additional section, Namo Bharat services will be available on 34 kms of Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, incorporating eight stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar North.

The foundation stone for India’s inaugural RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) corridor, linking Delhi to Meerut, was laid in March 2019. The priority section, comprising five stations from Sahibabad to Duhai in Ghaziabad, was launched for passenger operations by PM Modi in October 2023.
Officials said that Namo Bharat train service will start on the newly opened section (Murad Nagar to Modi Nagar North) from 6am on March 8, Friday. The train service will be available for commuters from 6pm to 8pm for the entire section from Sahibabad to Modinagar North. The first train in both directions will commence operations at 6am while the last train will depart from the terminal stations i.e. Sahibabad and Modi Nagar north at 8pm.
Every Namo Bharat train has six coaches with 72 seats available per standard coach and 62 seats in the premium coach. One coach, next to the premium coach, in every Namo Bharat train is reserved for women. A few seats are also reserved in each coach for women, the differently abled, and senior citizens.
The RRTS boasts a design speed of 180 kmph and operation speed of 160 kmph. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, stretching over 82 km, is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to less than an hour.
