New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals stayed at the top of the IPL 2024 points table despite losing a thrilling encounter against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday. This was Rajasthan Royals’ first loss of the season in five games. After this defeat, Rajasthan Royals have eight points from four wins. Kolkata Knight Riders, with three wins from four games, stay second in the table. Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings are third and fourth in the table respectively. Interestingly, all of KKR, LSG and CSK have six points each but their positions on the points table are determined by their net run rates. This was also the fourth time Rajasthan Royals lost an IPL match on the last ball while defending the target.
Chasing a huge target of 197 runs, captain Shubman Gill gave Gujarat Titans a solid start with a 44-ball 72. However, two wickets by Kuldeep Sen in and over and two wickets by Yuzvendra Chahal brought Rajasthan Royals back in the game. Gujarat Titans looked down and out at 157/6 in 17.3 overs but Rashid Khan (24 not out) and Rahul Tewatia (22) took the team home on the last delivery of the innings.
With 15 runs needed in the final over, Rashid hit two boundaries in the first three balls and a four in the final delivery to pull off a thrilling victory. Earlier, Riyan Parag (76) and Sanju Samson (68 not out) slammed cracking fifties and shared a 130-run partnership to power RR to a challenging 196/3.
