Earlier, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah arrived at Bengaluru airport to receive Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi reached Bengaluru to respond to summons issued by a court in a defamation case filed by BJP’s Karnataka unit. On June 1, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar appeared before the court in connection with the same.
Ahead of Karnataka Assembly polls last year, an advertisement that was published in newspapers accused ‘BJP government in Karnataka of large-scale corruption during 2019-2023’.
In all major newspapers, the advertisements were titled as “Corruption rate card” and accused the then CM Basavaraj Bommai’s government of being a “40 per cent Commission Sarkara”.
In June 2023, the BJP filed a complaint claiming that the allegations made in the advertisements were “false and reckless”. It alleged that the advertisements were given by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and Rahul Gandhi also shared these “defamatory advertisements” on his social media account on X.
