Anupam Kher is marking 40 years of his remarkable career in the Indian film industry. Having made his debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s 1984 film Saaransh, Kher shared a heartfelt post expressing gratitude to his first director. “Sometimes pictures don’t capture all the emotions,” he wrote, accompanied by a series of photos featuring him and Bhatt with a Saaransh memento. The memento, likely a gift from the director, bore a special message, “Celebrating The Marathon Man Of Bollywood.”

In addition to the gift, Kher also received a letter from Mahesh Bhatt, who shared his heartfelt thoughts about the veteran actor.
In his caption, Anupam Kher expressed deep affection and admiration for Mahesh Bhatt, referring to him as his “guru, friend, philosopher, and guide.” He shared, “What you don’t see in this picture are the many drops of tears that fell when this unfolded. You don’t see my emotions, you don’t see how this gesture of love and kindness from Bhatt Saab totally overwhelmed me and brought back so many memories. I kept reading what he had written for me and I was speechless. I couldn’t speak a word and sat down holding his hand in gratitude.”
Kher shared that he owes his identity as an actor to Mahesh Bhatt, who guided him in becoming the human and artist he is today. “He transformed me on every level. I’m forever indebted to him for making me believe in myself… THANK YOU BHATT SAAB!” he wrote. In October, the actor also reflected on his 40-year journey in cinema, stating, “I guess 40 years just flew by because I kept doing something that I truly love from the bottom of my heart. Being an actor is not my profession… it is my identity… just wanted to share this with all the fellow dreamers out there.”
In light of his latest Netflix release, Vijay 69, Anupam Kher thanked Mahesh Bhatt for the thoughtful gesture on this special day. Directed by Akshay Roy, Vijay 69 follows the heartwarming journey of a 69-year-old man who embarks on a new challenge to train for a triathlon. Alongside Kher, the film also stars Chunky Panday and Mihir Ahuja. Vijay 69 is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
