The Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2 – The Rule had an incredible first two weeks and is all set to have a record third week. Trade experts and others are confident that it’ll surpass the Rs. 700 crores mark without a shred of doubt. It can also go beyond if it continues to collect massively in the next couple of weeks.
Trade experts feel that Pushpa 2’s Hindi version has the potential to even cross the Rs. 800 crore mark; advise Allu Arjun to be selective while choosing his next project: “He has become a sensation. He’s as big as Shah Rukh Khan in the North”
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “Not just Rs. 700 crores but even Rs. 800 crores lifetime is possible. Pushpa 2 – The Rule is unstoppable. It is rewriting all the records and changing the dynamics of the box office. If it manages to cross the Rs. 800 crore mark, then imagine the potential of a Hindi film. The sky is the limit. But you need to have content and masala aspect to woo the masses. Aisa bhi nahin hai ki har film Rs. 700 crores ya Rs. 800 crores karegi.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan agreed, “The way it’s going, it is possible. Even after the release of Musafa: The Lion King and Baby John, it’ll continue to find an audience and also get screens.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal is confident that it’ll “100% cross the Rs. 700 crore mark” and added, “The arrest of Allu Arjun will help the film to some extent. Everyone is talking about it and many are wondering why he was declared responsible.” He also said, “Musafa: The Lion King and Baby John will have minimal impact. They will affect only if their word of mouth is super strong.”
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, however, remarked, “Baby John will dent its collections. But Rs. 700 crore lifetime is definitely a possibility.”
Where does Allu Arjun go from here?
All eyes are now on Allu Arjun’s next, which is expected to be a record opener as well. Taran Adarsh observed, “He needs to be particular about his choices from now. He now needs to look at things from the Pan-India perspective and not just the Telugu perspective. For his next film, Pushpa 2 will be the yardstick. I am sure he wants to take it easy, especially after investing five years in this franchise.”
Atul Mohan explained, “He has become a sensation. He’s as big as Shah Rukh Khan. From the South, many actors tried their luck in the North like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Nagarjuna, etc. But the craze that Allu generated is unbelievable. Both he and Prabhas have managed to do so.” He also said, “He has tasted blood. He will be eying Hindi box office as well from now on.”
Girish Johar, however, said, “It is the character and the setting that worked. It has been seen many times that an actor, after delivering a humongous hit, is not able to deliver the same numbers. Allu definitely has carved a stand-out performance. Now, he has to work doubly hard to once again deliver such figures.”
