KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS: CELEBRATING THE VALOUR WITH PRIDE

KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS: THE HISTORIC WIN BY OUR MARTYRS
GOING BACK IN TIME TO HAVE OUR MARTYR’S PERSPECTIVE
With tears of pride and a smile on their face every Indian today around the world is marking the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas by paying tribute to Indian Bravehearts who lost their life in the war.
Kargil’s close proximity to the line of control has often been the site of border conflicts between India and Pakistan. Specially in the aftermath of the engagement of both Nations in 1971 and the race to possess nuclear dynamite. The most brutal of these clashes was the Kargil War, the one which took place in May–July 1999.
THE STORY OF VALOUR
As soon as the Indian military and Indian Bravehearts learned that Pakistani fighters had infiltrated Indian-administered territory, it led to a severe face-off between the two sides. The face-off lasted more than two months.
The very first major face off was the battle of Tololing post the illegal entry of terrorists. The braveheart of the second battalions of Rajputana Rifles took the lead. The aim was to disengage Pakistani infiltrators from Tololing and nearby coordinates. Situations being challenging the terrain was uneven, narrow and steep. However our Army managed to recapture India’s part of this land around June13 of 1999.
By attempting to capture the Tiger hill as the battle of point 5353 Pakistani Infiltrators wanted to change the status quo of the region. They aimed to capture the Kashmir highway connecting the State to rest of the India. Hence trying to pressurize India to settle the Kashmir issue. However they failed here too as the Indian Army gave them a befitting reply through operation Vijay.
Likewise point 4875 was reinstated and protected from going into the hands of enemy. Captain Vikram Batra led 13 JAK Riffles to the point. All alone on his own Captain Batra killed five enemy soldiers on a point blank range. Despite every injury he had he cleared the enemy post by bursting them with grenades. This braveheart soldier of the Indian Army before succumbing to death cleared the way for his soldiers to capture the Point 4875 now proudly called Batra Top.
Post the bloodshed of 527 Indian soldiers, The Indian army reclaimed most of the area which Pakistan captured, infiltrating illegally in Kargil and hostilities finally ended in July when the remaining Pakistani fighters retreated from the Indian zone.
