Govt revises talati exam criteria, only graduates eligible now | Ahmedabad News

The minimum educational qualification for the recruitment of talati (village panchayat secretary) in Gujarat has been revised from Class 12 pass to a graduate, revised rules notified by the state government said Monday.

Confirming the development, a senior official of the Panchayats, Rural Housing and Rural Development Department said the criteria was fixed years ago when graduate candidates were not available in sufficient numbers. “But now, we can easily get graduate candidates for the post. Hence, the criteria has been revised.”

Another official noted that despite the criteria of Class 12 pass, most of the seats currently are filled by graduates. “The number of applications were increasing unnecessarily which was causing a lot of burden on the examination machinery. With this revision, the number of applications could be limited and we will continue to get meritorious candidates for the job.”

Apart from revising the educational qualification of the candidate, the notification has also revised the upper age limit for the general category candidates from 33 to 35 years.
