10-year-old girl found dead in pool at Bengaluru apartment complex; residents suspect electrocution, stage protest | Bangalore News
A 10-year-old girl was found dead in a swimming pool at an apartment complex in Bengaluru on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Manya Damerla, a resident of Prestige Lakeside Habitat apartment off the Varthur-Gunjur road. Manya was studying in Class 4 at a private school. Her father Rajesh Kumar Damerla is the founder-CEO of Life Simplified, a digital content-creating platform. The family resides in Tower-17 of the apartment complex.
Varthur police have registered a case of unnatural death even as residents of the apartment complex staged a protest on the road against members of the apartment association.
According to the police, Manya was playing near the swimming pool around 7.30 pm on Thursday when she fell into it and drowned. Rajesh came to know about the incident around 8 pm. The girl was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared her dead.
A police officer said, “When we spoke to the residents, they said Manya might have suffered electrocution from a wire that was dangling from a light pole near the pool. Residents suspect that when the girl went to pick a ball from the pool, she might have suffered electrocution and fallen into the water. There were no burn injuries on her body but we are not ruling out the allegations made by the residents.”
Shivakumar Gunare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Whitefield) said they are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact reason behind the girl’s death.
