In a recent interview, Imtiaz Ali disclosed that his initial vision for Highway was to cast a mature actress like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He imagined Rai as a perfect fit for the role of Veera, a character he saw as someone who could convey deep emotional layers without the need for makeup. However, Ali’s plans took a turn after meeting Alia Bhatt at the screening of Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. He was struck by her emotional depth and warmth during their conversation, leading him to rethink his casting decision.

Imtiaz Ali explained, “Her emotional quotient was very high, and I was drawn to talk to her. I realised that the emotional depth I sought in Veera could indeed be portrayed by the young girl in front of me.” This encounter led to the pivotal decision to cast Alia Bhatt, and the rest, as they say, is history.
