…Watch Animal for Ranbir Kapoor. He doesn’t let you down in even one frame. If you are a hard-core action movie fan, Animal has enough and more to keep you hooked to the screen. The story is engaging and though, long, the performances and the novelty in Ranbir and Bobby’s characters make it worthwhile….

…Vanga’s films can’t help but be thinly-veiled PSAs that disseminate his personal takes on love and life. But in Animal, his agenda feels a bit too extreme – like provocation for the sake of provocation. A good half hour gets wasted away on Vanga’s “let me tell you how to live your life” scenes that do nothing to move the story along. And the crucial theme of a toxic father-son relationship gets lost in the weeds, and punted down the line for a second part. Animal is a movie you’d either love to hate and be hated on for loving – and in the end, maybe that’s just the sort of movie Vanga wants Animal to be….

…Overall, the wait for a film like Animal was worth each day. It sets itself apart from the crowd with its unique storyline, drama, action and everything in between. All the Ranbir Kapoor fans will be pleasantly surprised and may be take his style back home, which attracts some extra brownie points too….

…Animal has some powerful action sequences. That 15-minute interval block will blow you away and set the single-screen audience on fire. First Dolby Walya and then Arjan Vailly take the scene to the next level. The “made in India” machine gun is what you call dinosaur-level thinking from the director….

…Overall, Animal makes for a solid watch, that rides on a fast-paced first half and a decent second with Ranbir Kapoor delivering the performance of his lifetime. Animal certainly has enough moments to sail through with a big number at the box office on support of Youth & Masses, though families and women might stay away from it after the initial euphoria. Watch it for Ranbir Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, and Ranbir Kapoor, alongside the high octane fast-paced first half….

…Animal dangles the possibility of a sequel. And if it gets to that, make sure you stay off popcorn during the show. For the squeamish among us, it will taste of blood. That’s the gory power of this paisa vasool film, which requires more guts than rationale….

…While Animal is certainly gory, violent, and flawed, the audience’s loud cheers indicate that it is entertaining. While it’s hard to pin down whether or not it’s worth seeing, it’s not for the faint of heart or those who loathed Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s prior works. Akin to how it began, the movie closes on a promise. A promise of a far bloodier sequel….

…How, then, to react to the surface of this film? It is constantly playing games with you, toying with your perceptions, never letting anything sink its teeth. A restlessness clouds the film. That Vanga seems to have lost his strident voice chasing the effect his movies have on people. At this point there is very little distinguishing his directorial intentions from that of a troll….

…Animal had the potential for greater impact if the excesses were reduced, and more focus was placed on the narrative. The attempt to shock the audience with graphic depictions of throats and organs being sliced, like the lead hero is playing Fruit Ninja, dominates the film, leaving viewers craving a more substantial storyline. However, if you’re a fan of the leading man, a trip to the nearest cinema screen might still be worthwhile….

…Despite its flaws, ‘Animal’ still manages to offer a unique cinematic experience that might be worth a one-time watch. The film’s climax redeems some of its shortcomings, leaving the audience with a lasting impression. Overall, ‘Animal’ may not hit as hard as ‘Arjun Reddy’, but it remains an alright option for those seeking something different in the realm of action dramas….

Kapoor is on fire, inhabiting to a frightening degree Vijay’s delusional personal war. Reptile-eyed even at his smouldering best, Kapoor’s career-best performance makes Animal tough to stomach, but equally difficult to ignore….

…The first half is engaging, primarily thanks to a very convincing Ranbir Kapoor, who manages to sell this toxic, annoying, irrational persona of Rannvijay very well. To think what he could have done with a better-written script! There is an apparent lack of female agency. Only Rashmika gets to say a few meaningful things in the feature, which is a definite step-up from Vanga’s previous movies….

…This is Sandeep Reddy Vanga going into the egomaniacal mode to make a movie that would take toxic masculinity to the other extreme end of Kabir Singh/Arjun Reddy. …The larger problem lies with Reddy Vanga’s fixation with downplaying women in his cinema.
Unfortunately, people take inspiration and brand such protagonists as “alpha males,” not knowing that art should be kept separate from real-life on occasion.
Kabir Singh’s repercussions are felt even today, and now, some social media accounts have already hailed Animal as “a slap to feminism.”
Our filmmakers should do better….

…Animal had the chance to claw out a fresh, psychology-driven path for Hindi action movies, at a juncture when it’s challenged (and frequently outstripped) by superior products from the South. The raw, lacerating violence that Vanga promised his critics, he hardly delivers. Like many before him, he seems more tempted by franchise potential than telling a controlled, coherent story. “Confidence is a medicine but…,” a doctor tries to tell Ranvijay. She can’t finish her sentence. He has already shut her off….

…Animal feels like it’s designed to “trigger” people, not understanding that being able to view violence against someone on screen and not be affected by it in real life is a privilege. A privilege not many are afforded and it’s a privilege not many are willing to address. That is perhaps the one unsettling feeling Animal leaves you with….
