Anthony Mackie’s first look from Captain America: Brave New World is out!
Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Falcon in the MCU’s Avengers, first appeared as Sam Wilson or the Falcon in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and later in the series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The series began with Sam picking up Captain America’s shield and assuming the role of the next Captain America.
Sam Wilson is reprising his role and will lead his own movie, Captain America: Brave New World, directed by Julius Onah, set to hit theatres on Feb 14, 2025.
The announcement was made at a conference where footage from the movie was shown to the audience. The clips featured Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross asking Anthony Mackie’s Captain America to rebuild the Avengers.
The movie begins in Washington DC, where Ross is elected as the president of the United States. Ross welcomes Sam to the White House, thanking him for his past heroic actions and giving the military veteran the opportunity to reform and rebuild the Avengers.
However, they hear a strange and high-pitched noise, and Ross’s presentation is cut short as Isaiah Bradley and other agents start firing. Chaos ensues as Ross’s inner circle is compromised.
Mackie adds that Brave New World feels “10 times bigger” than The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
“This movie is a clear reset. It really reestablishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be,” Mackie says. “I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards, the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
The upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for release in theatres on February 14, 2025, but details about the movie are still scarce. One of the highlights of the film is Liv Tyler returning to her role as Betty Ross, a character she hasn’t portrayed since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Additionally, Tim Blake Nelson will be back as Samuel Sterns/The Leader, introducing a new Hulk villain to the franchise.
