AR Rahman Shares He And Zakir Hussain Had An Album Planned, ‘I Regret Not Being Able To…’
The tabla maestro, Zakir Hussain, hardly needs any introduction as the legend was the pioneer figure in bridging the gap between Indian and Western music. The Tabla maestro was a child prodigy who mastered the art of tabla at the mere age of seven. The artist recently left for his heavenly abode after he was hospitalised in San Francisco for a critical heart condition. While all his fans are mourning his death, musical legend AR Rahman shared a heartfelt note for the deceased.
AR Rahman shares that he and Zakir Hussain planned a music album together
Zakir Hussain lived vivaciously through music; his tabla beats and rhythmic art are still etched into music lovers’ minds. The entire musical industry mourned the maestro’s death, and even AR Rahman shared a heartfelt note about Zakir Hussain. He added how Zakir inspired him, taking tabla to a global level like no other. In AR Rahman’s words:
“Zakir Bhai was an inspiration, a towering personality who elevated the tabla to global acclaim. His loss is immeasurable for all of us.”
AR Rahman shared that he regrets not being able to collaborate with Zakir Hussain as the duo originally planned. Their album will now never be made, and he will always mourn about the missed opportunity. Rahman also prayed for his students to heal from the loss and come out stronger to carry forward his legacy. AR Rahman further added:
“I regret not being able to collaborate with him as much as we did decades ago, though we had planned an album together . You shall be truly missed. May his family and his countless students worldwide find the strength to bear this immense loss.”
Zakir Hussain was the first musician to receive three grammy in a year
Born on March 9, 1951, to veteran tabla player, Ustad Alla Rakha, Zakir Hussain did his early education in Mumbai and later moved to the United States in 1970. He is the recipient of four Grammy Awards and the first musician from India to receive three Grammys at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Album, Best Global Music Performance and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. His influence has reached far beyond India, connecting people from all corners of the globe to his music.
Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 due to a lung-related issue
Tabla maestro, Zakir Hussain sadly passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco, USA, due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which is a lung-related issue. After much confusion about the validity of the news, his family issued a statement announcing his passing on Monday, December 16, 2024. Zakir is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, his daughters, Anisa Qureshi, his brothers, Taufiq and Fazal Qureshi, and his sister, Khurshid Aulia.
