With the BJP targeting the TMC government over Saturday’s mob attack on an NIA team in Purba Medinipur, CM Mamata Banerjee Sunday trained her gun at PM Narendra Modi, accusing his government of “using” central investigating agencies to target her party leaders and grassroot workers to “give BJP an advantage in Lok Sabha polls”.

In Purulia district, Mamata said: “Central agencies such as the NIA, ED, CBI and I-T are being used to target TMC leaders and workers… What would the women do if someone entered their house when everyone was asleep in the dead of night.”

“The central agencies are working as extended arms of the BJP and are being used to target TMC booth managers and grassroot workers so that the BJP gets an advantage in the polls. These agencies are asking our leaders and workers to either join the BJP or face action,” she said, adding, “but they (BJP) cannot win election by resorting to such tactics”.

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said: “The BJP can have ED, CBI on their side. A section of media friends is also siding with the BJP. But the people of Bengal are with the TMC.”
