As the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023 result was declared on Thursday, out of total 14 candidates who scored 100 percentiles, four are from Maharashtra. While Maharashtra has the highest number of 100 percentile scorers in CAT 2023, three of them are from Mumbai. The trio includes one aspirant, an IIM student and a CAT coaching teacher.
Among engineers dominating the CAT 2023 result, 20-years old Viraj Modi, a native of Ahmedabad is currently pursuing Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Mumbai’s NMIMS. This final year student who has also cleared level one of CFA is determined to make a career in the finance sector and believes that an MBA degree will ensure a good career in the field of his choice. “I am also looking forward to exploring various finance sector career opportunities post MBA,” said Viraj, who is currently staying in Mumbai and was taking CAT coaching from IMS.
Unlike many others who want to gain work experience before joining MBA; Viraj has decided that he wants to pursue MBA immediately after degree and has already filled admission applications for six IIMs. Apart from NMIMS curriculum, another reason for Viraj to pursue degree education in Mumbai was his parents’ suggestions. “I have always been passionate about making a career in finance. They suggested that Mumbai is the financial capital of the country,” said Viraj.
Another 100 percentile scorer is 23-year-old Soham Katkar who is already a student of IIM Calcutta. For Soham, this is his third attempt at CAT and a second 100 percentile score. “I appeared for CAT in 2021 for the first time when I scored 100 percentile and took admission to IIM Calcutta. Since then I have been appearing for CAT every year. It is sort of an intellectual challenge for myself to test where I stand,” said Soham, a student from IMS CAT coaching and a native of Mumbai’s Dadar locality. A computer science graduate from K J Somaiya college, Soham was clear about taking the MBA route, even after coming from an engineering background. Soham plans to continue appearing for the CAT exam every year.
The third 100 percentile scorer from Mumbai is a mentor from IMS coaching institute who goes by the name of Scrabbler. “This is his 17th attempt out of which he has now scored 100 percentiles on 13, including the CAT 2023,” said Hemang Panchmatia, CAT head at IMS adding that the Scrabbler does not want to be identified. Scrabbler’s first attempt at CAT was in the year 2002.
