Crime News: The daughter of a Congress councillor in Karnataka was stabbed to death on Thursday at the premises of her college in Karnataka’s Hubbali by a classmate. Neha Hiremath, daughter of Congress corporator Niranjan Hiremath, was stabbed seven times with a knife, as per a report by NDTV. The attacker was identified as Fayaz, who studied in Hiremath’s college but later dropped out. He has been arrested by the police.

According to the NDTV report, Neha was walking inside the campus on Thursday when Fayaz confronted her. The incident was captured on CCTV. According to the CCTV footage, a couple of sentences were exchanged between the two before Fayaz attacked her. After being stabbed the first time, Neha fell to the ground and Fayaz continued his assault on her.

The attacker then makes a run for it while some students chase after him. According to media reports, Neha was a first-year Masters of Computer Applications (MCA) student at BVB College. Fayaz, a resident of Belagavi district, had been stalking Neha for several days after she allegedly rejected his advances, India Today reported, citing sources.

Neha was rushed to hospital by the college authorities and other students, but she was declared brought dead, according to an India Today report. Hubballi Dharwad Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar said that the accused had fled but he was arrested under 90 minutes.

“The accused had fled, but we arrested him in under 90 minutes. Other students have told us that Neha and the accused knew each other and had studied together. We will know more once the accused’s interrogation is done,” Sukumar said, as quoted by NDTV. Sukumar also said, “At around 4.45-5 pm, the incident happened where an ex-classmate of the girl Neha, studying MCA at BVB College, assaulted her with a knife. He studied BCA there. He stabbed her 6-7 times,” as quoted by India Today.

“What we know so far is that they knew each other as they studied together. Further details along with the motive will be known after interrogation,” she further stated.
