Do you own a private vehicle in Delhi? You may have to pay more for parking soon

Come November, private vehicle owners in Delhi may have to pay more for parking.

The move, which has been on the cards for several years but has faced opposition, especially from within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), was first proposed to try and reduce the use of private vehicles and cut vehicular pollution.

In a directive issued Tuesday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in NCR and Adjoining Areas directed urban local bodies — the MCD, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment Board — to review and rationalise parking charges for private vehicles. The directive states that new charges are supposed to come into effect by November 1.
