Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki is seeing an average trend at the box office in India as the film was not able to reap the benefits of the Christmas Holiday on Monday. According to early estimates, the film has collected in the range of Rs. 22 to 23 crores on its fifth day, taking the 5-day total collections to Rs. 125 crores. Dunki will now be targeting an opening week of Rs. 145 crores, with an extended week one of Rs. 155 crores, and that’s much below the expected numbers.
It’s the first collaboration of Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, who are two of the biggest names of Indian Cinema, and hence the numbers are below expectations. On the box office front, Dunki will be looking to earn lifetime numbers of Rs. 250 crores and emerge a box office hit when it comes to ROI and other factors.
After opening at Rs. 29 crores on Thursday, Dunki collected Rs. 20 crores on Friday, Rs. 25 crores on Saturday and Rs. 30 crores on Sunday. Now, the Monday numbers are approx. 10 percent higher than Friday but 30 percent lower than Sunday. The movie should have stayed in the range of Thursday to be in the race to enter the Rs. 300 crore club, however, that seems unlikely at the moment.
The five-day numbers are decent, but the two Khans – Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan – have set high standards for themselves, which make these collections look smaller than what they stand for. It’s a good space to be in speaking volumes about their stardom and goodwill among the audiences.
