The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to businessman Amit Arora, the director of Buddy Retail Pvt Ltd, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in relation to the alleged excise policy scam where Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too is an accused.

Arora was already out on interim bail since August 12 following an order by a special judge of the trial court under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The bail was due to expire on August 21.

Arora, through his counsel, submitted before the court of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna on Tuesday that he “is suffering from life-threatening diseases”. According to medical records submitted by him, on August 16, he was brought to the clinic with a complaint of breathlessness with cough, dyspnea on exertion, and fever and was referred to be admitted. He was then taken to a hospital and advised oxygen and admission.

The court issued notice to the ED, which sought time to verify the medical records. In the interim, granted interim bail to Arora till the next date of hearing, scheduled for August 30, upon furnishing a personal bond and a surety of Rs 2 lakh each.
