Purab Kohli, who plays a key role in the upcoming SONY LIV web-series 36 Days, opened up about his character Hrishikesh Jaykar aka Rishi. Married to Radhika Jaykar aka Shruti Seth, Rishi lives in an idyllist and plush colony in North Goa but his world turns upside down when he decides to have a tenant in his house. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Purab traces the journey of his character but also revealed that he was actually approached for a different role which he had to deny due to lack of dates.
EXCLUSIVE: Purab Kohli reveals he had initially rejected 36 Days due to lack of dates; says, “I was actually approached for a different part”
“Actually, to be honest, the first time the show came to me, somebody else was offered this part of Rishi, and they offered me another part in the show. And at that point of time, I liked that. That part also is an amazing part. And in fact, when I was playing Rishi, I was wondering, or should I do that or not do that?” Purab Kohli told Bollywood Hungama and went on to add, “This first character they offered me, I liked the character, but I didn’t have the dates that time. They called me about four or five months before they were shooting, and said, ‘These are the dates’. But I was not available. I had signed on something else, and it was supposed to happen at that point of time. So I said, I can’t, I don’t think I have the dates.”
The actor, however, was surprised when they returned to him after a few months and eventually in a circle of serendipity of sorts, he landed the role of Hrishikesh Jaykar. “And then about a month before they went on floor, they called me back again, asking, ‘What are your dates looking like?’ Because this is another part that’s opened up. For the first one, we’ve cast somebody else, but this is another part that we have. So do you want to relook at it? And as luck would have it, at that point of time, that project that I was to do got pushed too. So, later, when they came to me for the second part, I already knew the show. And I said, ‘okay, this looks great. And let’s get down straight to business’. It was literally pretty much like that. In two or three weeks it was all finalized,” he shared.
Trapped in a web of lies, deceit, betrayal, and in search of a dangerous truth, 36 Days is an official remake of the Welsh series 35 Days. Also starring Chandan Roy Sanyal, Sharib Hashmi, Amruta Khanvilkar, Chahat Vig, Sushant Divgikar, Shernaz Patel, among others, the show is expected to premiere on SONY LIV on July 12.
