According to Variety, the series centers around the unlikely duo of Ser Duncan the Tall, a towering but kind knight played by Peter Claffey, and his young squire, Egg, portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell. Their journey takes them to a prestigious competition where they encounter various key figures from Westeros’ history.

Five new actors have joined the cast to bring these historical figures to life. Finn Bennett will play Prince Aerion Targaryen, while Bertie Carvel will take on the role of Prince Baelor Targaryen. Sam Spruell portrays Prince Maekar Targaryen, another member of the Targaryen dynasty. Daniel Ings portrays Ser Lyonel Baratheon, a legendary knight known as the Laughing Storm. Rounding out the new cast is Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, a mysterious puppeteer.

The first season will consist of six episodes, with Sarah Adina Smith directing three and executive producer Owen Harris helming the remaining three.

Based on George R. R. Martin’s “The Hedge Knight,” the series boasts a writing team led by Martin himself and Ira Parker. Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw join them as executive producers.

The official logline for the series hints at the adventures that await Ser Duncan and Egg, “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
