Investigation into the school bus accident near Unhani village of Kanina in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district, in which six students were killed and 22 injured, revealed that minutes before picking up students to take them to G L Public School, the driver allegedly consumed alcohol.
Haryana police examined the CCTV footage from a camera installed outside a shop on the morning of April 11, where the driver, Dharmendra, who has been arrested, is seen stopping the empty bus around 7.25 am near Kheri village.
For about 10 mins, the bus was parked on the side of the road and four people could be seen in the footage boarding it. Police suspect that the four people consumed alcohol with the bus driver.
Besides the driver, the police have also arrested the school’s principal Dipti Rao and secretary Hoshiar Singh. Police said the court of Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate Menka Singh in Kanina has sent them to five-day police custody.
