It’s that time of the year when every house is lit up to welcome Lord Ganesha to come and reside in their homes for ten days. The festival which witnesses immense devotion, celebration and enthusiasm throughout the country is one of the most revered festivals of the Hindu religion and is celebrated with great excitement and zest by the devotees of Lord Ganesha in the country, especially in Maharashtra. This year, the 10-day-long festival will be commemorated from September 7 to September 17.
Agneepath
Don’t we all remember the Ganpati Visarjan scene which still stands as one of the most impactful scenes of the 2012 action thriller film Agneepath. The high-energy devotional track Deva Shree Ganesha beautifully captured the essence of Ganesh Chaturthi. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the film stars Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra.
Vaastav
A gangster drama film that captured the essence of Ganesh Chaturthi is Sanjay Dutt’s 1999 film Vaastav: The Reality. The character of Raghu’s devotion and faith towards Lord Ganesha, portrayed by Sanjay is the central theme of the film, as he struggles to lead a righteous life despite the violence and criminality around him. Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, the film also starred Namrata Shirodkar, Mohnish Bahl and Reema Lagoo in pivotal roles.
Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge
The 2010 comedy-drama film which revolves around an unexpected arrival of an unwanted guest had a Ganpati angle adding a delightful twist to the storyline. Amidst the hilarious situations and misunderstandings, the family’s devotion to Lord Ganesha is portrayed beautifully. The film concludes on the last day of the 10-day long festival when Lord Ganesha is immersed and also adds small details of the event, such as prayers at home and kids visiting the Ganpati mandap. Directed by Ashwni Dhir, the film starred Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles.
My Friend Ganesha
Every Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without this adorable film which revolves around the connection between a young child and Lord Ganesha, brilliantly capturing the true essence of the auspicious festival Ganesh Chaturthi. The film featured Ahsaas Channa, Kiran Janjani and Shital Shah in the lead roles.
