The trailer launch of Indian 2’s Hindi version, Hindustani 2, was launched in a grand fashion in Mumbai. It was graced by the film’s actors Kamal Haasan and director Shankar and they shared fascinating trivia. Siddharth was in a great mood and spoke highly of his teachers and mentors, that is, Kamal Haasan and Shankar.
Hindustani 2 trailer launch: Siddharth calls Kamal Haasan ‘Pan-UNIVERSAL star’: says “All Bollywood stars attended Appu Raja’s 100 day celebration; Madras ke is shaks ne poori geography ko hila diya tha”
Siddharth began by saying, “Some people are claiming ‘Yeh South film ka promotion chal hai’. Let me clear up your misunderstanding. This is not a South film. If that was the case, the film would have been titled South Indian or Dakshin Bhartiya! This is a Pan-Indian film in the true sense. I have worked with two big personalities (in this film).”
Siddharth then credited Shankar for launching him in Boys (2003) saying, “One of them introduced me to the world as an actor. His name is the great Shankar sir. I am proud to be a Shankar product. I want to thank him not just for holding my hand then but also for giving me an opportunity to work with Kamal Haasan sir.”
Talking about Kamal Haasan, Siddharth said, “He is my guru ji and mentor. Nowadays, we often use the word Pan-India. But if you have free time, do log on to YouTube and check out the video of Appu Raja’s (1989) 100-day celebration. You’ll find all the big Hindi stars in that video (smiles). This means that 30 years later, Madras ke is shaks ne poori geography ko hila diya tha! He’s not just a Pan-Indian star; he’s a Pan-Global or rather a Pan-Universal star!”
Siddharth then talked about Kamal Haasan’s dedication saying, “He gives 200% to his work and it’s an absolute gift to see him work. His make-up used to start at 3:30 am and it used to take four hours. He couldn’t even eat or drink properly during that time. Warna make-up hil jaata tha. He used to consume only a liquid diet, that too, through a straw. And after completing his day’s work, he used to take 1 ½ hours to remove his makeup.”
Hindustani 2 releases in cinemas on July 12, 2024.
