James Cameron has announced the title for the third film in the Avatar franchise: Avatar: Fire and Ash. The reveal came at the D23 Expo in California, with Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington present. The film is set to release on December 19, 2025.
At the expo, Cameron showcased concept art, including an image of Neytiri (Saldaña) dancing over flames and riding banshees. “You’ll see a lot more of Pandora that you never saw before,” Cameron teased. “It’s an insane adventure with high emotional stakes.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash will follow the events of 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, introducing the Ash People, a new Na’vi clan. Oona Chaplin will star as Varang, their leader, with David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh joining the cast. Returning actors include Worthington, Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and more.
Avatar and The Way of Water are among the top five highest-grossing films ever, with the original film leading at USD 2.9 billion.
