Janhvi Kapoor talks about feeling the weight of her identity as Sridevi’s daughter
Janhvi Kapoor graced the AajTak Agenda event recently, wherein she talked about facing the pressures of her identity as Sridevi’s daughter. She credited her mother for having done an exceptional array of work and being an irreplaceable epitome of versatility. Moreover, the actress talked about being unfairly compared with her mother. She mentioned:
“I don’t think anybody can do what she did, anybody is as versatile as she is. The level at which she would operate I don’t think anybody can cope with that leave me alone! But in today’s generation, the actresses get compared to her dance moves, every step, every performance. My sister and I would initially stress a lot and get very nervous, overburdened with the baggage. But then I began to understand that I’m being compared to Mumma so that’s the standard!”

Janhvi reveals that she wanted to have a detached identity from her mother at the time of her debut
It was back in 2018 when Janhvi Kapoor made her Bollywood debut with the film, Dhadak. Recalling those days, the actress revealed how hard she used to try to distance herself from the identity of being Sridevi’s daughter. Expressing more, she said:
“When I started working on my first film, I was so conscious that I wanted to be completely detached from her because people anyway used to think that I got my first film because I am Sridevi Kapoor’s daughter. I went on a different trip and thought I wouldn’t take any help from her. If she acted a certain way, I would do the complete opposite. I used to tell her to not come on the sets, to not help me I used to feel that it’s already an unfair advantage, it will be more unfair if I take her advice.”
However, in the same note, Janhvi also expressed how deeply she regretted her decision, as now she would do anything to get that kind of advice from her mother. Agreeing that she cannot escape the tag of being Sridevi’s daughter because the former is indeed her mom, Janhvi said:
“But now I feel I was foolish at that time. Main hoon unki beti iss sacchai se main bhaag nahi sakti. Now that she is not here, this is my biggest regret.”
