If the title ‘powerhouse’ were to be allocated to one person, no one would deserve it more than Kalki Koechlin. Actor, writer, producer, director, and activist, Kalki has proven that not only can she juggle multiple roles at once, but she can excel at them. However, it seems the Dev D star’s love life wasn’t quite as smooth sailing as her professional life. In a recent interview, she shared her views on how men cope with a woman’s success while dropping tidbits about her former relationship with director, Anurag Kashyap.

Kalki Koechlin firmly believes men are “almost always” threatened by a woman’s success

In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Kalki Koechlin was asked whether she thought men saw a woman’s success as a threat. And her candid answer was a resounding, “obviously, almost always.” She then elaborated on how the dynamic changes when the man himself is successful and told Hauterrfly:

“I think if he’s successful, it becomes a little easier but it’s very rare to find a man who’s totally comfortable with you, just like, travelling a lot, being so busy, being selfied everywhere you go, and he’s just in the sidelines. So it’s not easy.”

Kalki then started questioning how she might feel if the tables were turned. The realisation then struck her that she had already had such an experience when married to her ex-husband, Anurag Kashyap. Revealing more about their relationship, she said:

“I wonder how I would be in the similar position, which I think I was in my first marriage. When I started out, I was a nobody and Anurag was so big and I was kind of on the sidelines. And it’s not easy being that when you have all this attention on someone.”

Kalki Koechlin shares her tips on dealing with being overshadowed by a partner’s fame

In the same conversation, Kalki was asked about how she would deal with having an extremely famous partner. Kalki’s answer reflected her honesty, as she compared how she handled the situation in the past with how she would now. She said:

“It can be difficult. I think I was also so much younger then and I found it difficult and I was always wanting to run away with him, to go to places which were inaccessible. But I think now I’ve just accepted it as a part of life.”

Kalki also revealed that when she was younger, she was more of a ‘wear your heart on your sleeve’ kind of girl. Her innocence and naivety towards the media made her an open book about things. However, she now understands the value of keeping private the things that matter most to her and her partner.

Guy Hershberg’s “chill” attitude towards Kalki Koechlin’s career is what made her fall for him

During the interview, Kalki also gave some insight into her relationship with hubby, Guy Hershberg. She revealed that the relationship was especially refreshing for her because it was like starting from a blank slate as Guy, being from another country, had no idea about her stardom. She spoke of an incident where Guy defended her profession, saying:

“He got very defensive one day when his cousin came home and said, ‘Do you know she’s a Bollywood actress?’ And he’s showing him all this Instagram crap, and he’s like, ‘I don’t care. Put that away. How vulgar of you. That’s not why I love her.’”
