Khel Khel Mein box office collection day 5: Akshay Kumar-starrer fails the Monday test, struggles to cross the Rs 20 crore mark | Bollywood News

Despite Monday being a holiday for many across the country on account of Raksha Bandhan, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein was unable to recover after a disappointing opening weekend. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the comedy film experienced a steep fall in footfalls on the crucial first Monday, continuing its poor box office performance.

According to industry tracking website Sacnilk, Khel Khel Mein earned just Rs 1.9 crore, more than 70 percent less than what the film earned on Sunday (Rs 3.85 crore). Khel Khel Mein’s nett five-day total stands at Rs 15.95 crore. It’s unclear if the movie will be able to pass the Rs 20 crore mark, a figure that Akshay’s films would often hit in a day or two.

The film observed an overall Hindi occupancy of 22.12 percent, with most people catching the night shows. In Mumbai, the occupancy was 22.25 percent with 313 shows. In Delhi and NCR, the occupancy stood at 24.75 percent for 406 shows. The number of shows for Khel Khel Mein have reduced quite drastically in both the metro cities. On day 1 of Khel Khel Mein there were 352 shows in Mumbai and 421 shows in Delhi and NCR. The film’s poor performance has resulted in a reduced number of screens.

The Akshay Kumar-starrer continues to suffer in the face of stiff competition from Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2, which was also released in cinemas on Independence Day, along with Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa. The film has raked in Rs 228 crore in India so far. Vedaa, straring John Abraham in the lead is also having a tough time at the box office. Vedaa’s five day total earnings stand at Rs 15.5 crore.

Khel Khel Mein also stars Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan and Ammy Virk.
