Latest News Live Today: As the monsoon in India shifts downward, multiple parts of the country shall receive heavy to very heavy rainfall today. In the southern states, a red alert warning of heavy rainfall has been sounded in three districts of Kerala and parts of Karnataka, prompting authorities to shut schools in Uttar Kannada district. Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha and Jharkhand along with all major north-eastern states are set to receive heavy rainfall over the next five days.

On the political front, the monsoon session of Karnataka Assembly will begin today. The opposition BJP is expected to question the Siddaramaiah government over the alleged MUDA scam and the Cauvery water dispute. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday had directed his team to come prepared for the nine-day session. Also, a Supreme Court Bench will hear former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s pleas for reviving his bail petitions related to the alleged excise policy scam, today.

In other news, after former US president Donald Trump’s assassination attempt by a 20 year old on Saturday, his opponent, President Joe Biden, condemned the attack on Trump while speaking at the White House Oval Office on Sunday and urged US citizens to not follow extremism and abide by national unity. Investigations into the motive of the assassination is underway.
