Megastar Mammootty finally addressed the mounting allegations of sexual misconduct that have rocked the Malayalam industry. Mammootty, who has long been revered as a pillar of Malayalam cinema, acknowledged the gravity of the situation. He expressed his deep concern for the survivors who had come forward with their harrowing experiences.

The actor emphasized the importance of addressing the issue with utmost seriousness. He noted that the film industry, like any other societal institution, is not immune to the darker aspects of human behaviour. He called upon all members of the industry to unite against sexual harassment and to create a safe and inclusive environment for all.
In Malayalam, he wrote, “This post is regarding the developments that the Malayalam film industry is currently witnessing. The organizational process is that first, the leadership will react. I waited this long because I believe that I, as a member, should comment only after such official responses. Cinema is a reflection of the society: all the good and bad in society is in the movies too. The film industry is something that the society pays close attention to. Hence, all things happening there, small and big, will become topics of big discussions. Film personnel need to be careful and vigilant so that nothing untoward happens in this realm,” he asserted.
Mammootty’s support for the Justice Hema Committee’s recommendations was a significant step forward. He recognized the need for systemic changes to prevent future instances of misconduct. “The Justice Hema Committee was formed by the government, after something unfortunate and untoward happened, to study the film industry and prepare a report to suggest solutions and recommend measures (to prevent the same),” the megastar noted.
“We wholeheartedly welcome and support the recommendations and solutions outlined in that report. It is high time that all associations in the film industry join hands without distinction to implement them. The police investigation is proceeding vigorously on the complaints that have been raised. The full version of the Justice Hema Committee report is before the court. Let the police investigate honestly. Let the court decide the punishments,” the actor said in his statement.
One of the most contentious issues raised in the report was the alleged existence of a “power group” within the industry. Mammootty unequivocally refuted this claim, asserting that such a group would be incompatible with the collaborative nature of filmmaking.
