Lok Sbaha elections 2024 are just around the corner and today if I tell you China is trying very hard to disrupt the upcoming elections will you be confused, how a second country can interfere in Indian elections.

Well that;s true, Microsoft has issued a warning that China is preparing to interfere in upcoming elections in India, the United States, and South Korea by using artificial intelligence-generated content. This concern arises following China’s use of AI to influence Taiwan’s presidential election in a trial run.

Last month, Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. They discussed the potential use of AI for social causes, promoting women-led development, and innovations in health and agriculture.

Around the world, at least 64 countries, along with the European Union, are expected to hold national elections. Together, these countries represent about 49 percent of the global population.

Microsoft’s threat intelligence team has reported that Chinese state-supported cyber groups, possibly with involvement from North Korea, are planning to target multiple elections scheduled for 2024. According to Microsoft, China is likely to use AI-generated content on social media platforms to influence public opinion in favor of their own interests during these elections.

Now let me explain you how AI is threat to the elections

In an important election year, the danger from political ads using AI to create misleading and false content, like “deepfakes” or making up events that didn’t happen, is serious. These tactics are meant to trick people about what candidates have said, their positions on different topics, and even if certain events actually occurred. If not stopped, these deceptive efforts could harm people’s ability to make informed choices when voting.

Although the current impact of AI-generated content is not very high, Microsoft has cautioned that China’s growing use of this technology could become more successful in the future. The tech company pointed out that China previously tried to influence Taiwan’s election by spreading AI-generated false information. This was the first time a government-supported group used such tactics in a foreign election.
