Modi in Kharge’s turf: ‘Let me be firewall against Cong loot’ | India News

Launching a scathing attack on ruling Congress in Karnataka from the bastion of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Kalaburagi on the day Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the poll schedule Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged voters to make BJP candidates victorious across 28 Parliamentary constituencies to help him firewall the state against alleged corruption of the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led state government.
Modi spoke about the alleged deterioration of the state’s law and order situation, and accused the government of indulging in “loot”, while emphasising only he can prevent the Congress from doing it.

Within 10 months of coming to power, Modi said that the Congress government has “fallen into disfavour with the people”. “If the state is working like this and if it is looting you then it is very important that your voices should reach the Parliament. To save Karnataka from loot you have let me be a firewall so that there is constant watch on them and there is regular flow of information to Delhi and so that I can stop the looting of the people of Karnataka,” Modi said.
“The anger you have towards Congress in Karnataka, I can understand. Congress is a party that despite changing their costume number of times, their misdeeds don’t change. That’s the reason people of Karnataka are awake and are angry towards it,” Modi said.
“When a large number of BJP MPs are elected from Karnataka then the corrupt government of the Congress will have to be in fear. They will have to think several times that information is reaching Modi. The BJP MPs will expose the dark deeds of the Congress. Even if they try, the Congress attempts at corruption will not be hidden. So we need maximum seats for BJP from Karnataka. I pray to you as your servant,” he said.
BJP’s second list of candidates, announced on March 13, included 20 names from Karnataka, where the party has tied up with JDS for the LS polls, headed by party supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, which will fight from three seats in the Old Mysore region — Hassan, Mandya and Kolar.
Pointing out that he had given multiple guarantees to the people of the country, he would like one guarantee in return from the people of Karnataka: that the Congress will not open its account this time in Karnataka in the Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress does not like democracy “and they go around the world and berate us and they make fun of our tradition, democracy and legacy of Basavana”, he said.
On the law and order situation, he said anti-social elements are getting protection openly and fear is being instilled into the minds of the people. Corruption cannot be separated from the Congress, Modi said and added, “For these parivarwadis (dyansts), corruption is their oxygen. Without corruption these people cannot even breathe in politics.”
Making big promises ahead of elections and filling their pockets after polls is the Congress’s job, Modi alleged, adding that the Congress was making Karnataka “family ATM”. – With PTI inputs
