Money laundering case | ED opposing plea seeking pardon untenable: Sachin Waze | Mumbai News

DISMISSED Police officer Sachin Waze Wednesday approached a special court stating that the Enforcement Directorate (ED)’s opposition to his plea seeking pardon from the money laundering case filed by it, is “untenable in law”.

Waze was named as an accused along with former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and two of his staffers for alleged money laundering of bribes taken from bars and establishments. Last year, Waze sought to become a prosecution witness in the case by turning into an approver and seeking pardon.

The ED had earlier given its no-objection to the plea filed by Waze but in July withdrew consent stating that there is enough prima facie evidence against all accused.

The court is yet to decide on whether Waze can be pardoned and made a witness in the case against the other accused.

In an application filed by Waze, he has said that he had voluntarily made an application to disclose complete truth within his knowledge and his statement has been recorded by the ED.

Festive offer

It said that the provisions regarding grant of pardon state that the accused must disclose the complete truth within his knowledge and that since he has done so, the court must consider his plea.

It also adds that in the connected CBI case, which is the scheduled offence based on which the ED filed its case, no chargesheet has been filed against him.

Waze had similarly sought pardon in the CBI case and was granted the pardon last year.

He was arrested by the NIA in 2021 in connection with the Antilia terror scare and Mansukh Hiran murder case and has been behind bars since.
