Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha constituency: Muzaffarnagar is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh and is also one of the constituencies that have been active since the very first Lok Sabha elections. It has a total of five Vidhan Sabha seats under it, i.e., Budhana, Charthawal, Muzaffarnagar, Khatauli, and Sardhana.
The constituency of Muzaffarnagar used to be a stronghold of the Indian National Congress. However, since 1990, the Bharatiya Janata Party have managed to emerge victorious in five out of the eight Lok Sabha elections, including back-to-back wins in 2014 and 2019, and has turned it into a stronghold of its own.

In the last two Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janta Party’s candidate, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, emerged victorious after receiving 6,53,391 and 5,73,780 votes in 2014 and 2019, respectively. He outshined BSP’s Kadir Rana in 2014, which got 2,52,241 votes, and RLD’s Chaudhary Ajit Singh in 2019, which received 5,67,254 votes.
The Lok Sabha election of 2024 in Muzaffarnagar will be contested on April 19, i.e., in the first phase. BJP has decided to field their two-time sitting MP Sanjeev Kumar Balyan once again, hoping to complete their hattrick. However, he will be given tough competition from a seasoned politician from the Samajwadi party, Harendra Singh Malik.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Sanjeev Balyan for the third time in a row as a result of his undefeated track record in this seat. Balyan started his political journey in 2014 when he contested the 16th Lok Sabha elections on BJP’s ticket from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, where he emerged victorious with 4,01,150 votes and entered the lower house of the Indian Parliament for the very first time. He then replicated his feat in 2019, with a nominal margin of just 6,526 votes.

In the hope of dethroning the two-time MP from BJP, the Samajwadi Party has decided to field the seasoned politician from the political landscapes of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, Harendra Singh Malik. Malik’s political career started in 1985 when he was elected on a Lok Dal ticket to be the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Khatauli seat. Malik joined the Janata Dal in 1989 and took a seat in Baghra. For the next seven years, he stayed an MLA, which was a pivotal time in his political career. In 2002, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, representing Haryana.
