Arvind Kejriwal Arrest: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Monday wrote a letter to Tihar jail superintendent, claiming that he has been asking for insulin daily amid spike in sugar levels. In his letter, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo rejected the claims by the jail authorities about AIIMS doctors having said there was no reason to worry about his health, party sources said, according to news agency PTI.

“I have read the statement of Tihar administration in the newspaper. I felt sad after reading the statement. Both the statements of Tihar are false. I am asking for insulin daily. I showed the glucose metre readings and said that the sugar is going very high three times a day. Sugar goes between 250 to 320,” Kejriwal said in his letter to the Tihar jail superintendent.

‘Have demanded insulin everyday’

Rejecting the claims of Tihar jail authorities, the AAP national convenor said that he has been demanding insulin everyday.

“I also showed them that my fasting sugar level was in the range of 160-200 every day. Almost every day, I demanded insulin. Then how could you make such a statement that I never raised the issue of insulin?”.

Tihar admin ‘lying under political pressure’

In his letter, Kejriwal also accused the he jail administration of “lying” under “political pressure”.

“I am pained that you have issued false statements under political pressure. I hope that you will follow the law and constitution,” the jailed AAP leader said.

The Delhi CM also refuted claims that AIIMS doctors had said that there was no cause of worry.

“AIIMS doctors never said that there was nothing to worry about. Doctors of AIIMS have said that they will give advice after looking at the data and history. The Tihar administration is lying under political pressure,” he said.

‘Conspiracy to kill Kejriwal’

The AAP has accused the Tihar administration of denying insulin to Kejriwal, who suffers from diabetes, alleging that it was a  “conspiracy” to “kill” him.

In a statement on Sunday, the Tihar administration had said they had arranged a video conference of Kejriwal on April 20 with senior specialists from AIIMS during which neither “the issue of insulin was raised by Kejriwal, nor was it suggested by the doctors”.

Kejriwal provided detailed consultation

The Tihar administration said appropriate senior specialists from AIIMS provided consultation to Kejriwal during the video call.

“After a 40-minute detailed consultation, Kejriwal was assured that there was no serious concern and was advised to continue with the prescribed medicines, which will be evaluated and reviewed regularly,” a jail official had said.

The video conference was organised by the Tihar Jail administration on a request by the chief minister’s wife Sunita Kejriwal. Apart from a senior specialist from the hospital, medical officers of the Tihar jail were also on the call.

The AIIMS specialist was provided with a complete record of CGM (Glucose Monitoring Sensor) and the details of diet and medicines being taken by Kejriwal, the official said.

“Neither the issue of insulin was raised by Kejriwal, nor was it suggested by the doctors,” the official claimed.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government”s now-scrapped excise policy. He is lodged in Tihar jail since April 1.
