FROM THE next academic year, teachers reaching after 10:40 am would be considered late and those arriving after 11:15 am would be marked ‘absent’ for the day at all state run schools, as the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) stresses on punctuality.
According to a senior official of the Board, the change in arrival timing for teachers in schools is aimed at “instilling a sense of punctuality” among teachers.
Earlier, the teachers had to reach their schools by 10:50 am to avoid being late and by 11:05 am to be safe being marked absent.
“The change in the timing will be applicable from the next academic year (2024-25). Besides this, the teachers have to register in their respective diaries the details of classes being taken by them along with the class duration. They also have to show the diary to the headmaster/headmistress at regular intervals,” said the official.
Summer vacation shortened to 10 days
The WBBSE has published the holiday list for the next academic year on its website, which showed that summer vacation for state-run schools has been shortened to 10 days, excluding Sundays.
The total number of holidays in a year will, however, remain 65. The summer vacation will start on May 9 and end on
May 20.
Till last year, summer vacations would begin after May 20 and continue till the end of the first week of June. However, due to heat wave conditions, summer breaks were announced much earlier than the scheduled time.
The holiday list also shows that the Durga Puja/Kali Puja vacation will be from October 7-November 4, 2024.
