Nitish Kumar’s words that may haunt him now: ‘NDA has no vision’ to ‘BJP will be finished in Bihar’ to caste census | Political Pulse News

In the course of less than one-and-half years, Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar broke up with the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) to join hands with the BJP again, to take oath as the CM at the head of the NDA government for ninth time Sunday.
Last year, Nitish had also emerged as a key architect of the Opposition’s INDIA alliance – formed to take on the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls – as he had toured several non-BJP states before organising its first meeting in Patna. Here is a look at ten statements made by Nitish over the last six months that he may now want to forget or even retract.

June 23, 2023: ‘Seventeen Opposition parties will fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together. Another meeting will be held in Shimla to chalk out details of the plan of action. Details including details of seat-sharing and party-wise split will be finalised in the Shimla meeting,’ said Nitish after the first meeting of the Opposition grouping in Patna convened by him.
July 26, 2023: ‘There seems to be no sign of an end to the violence in Manipur. In such a scenario it is justified for the Opposition to demand the Prime Minister’s statement on the issue. People, especially the women in the state, are suffering due to the violence. The attack on women in Manipur is shocking and disturbing. Can you imagine the brutality faced by women in Manipur? They were paraded naked. Such incidents are highly condemnable. The Prime Minister must issue a statement in Parliament,’ said Nitish while supporting the Opposition’s demand for a statement by PM Modi on the Manipur violence in Parliament.
August 11, 2023: ‘In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP will be finished from Bihar and that is why they are in panic. They only do propaganda now, no development work is being done. Many political parties have moved forward after the Opposition unity started from Patna. All the parties together will decide how to develop the country further. When we are uniting, they (BJP) are facing problems,” said Nitish in response to PM Modi calling INDIA bloc a “ghamandiya alliance” in Parliament.
August 17, 2023: “Present NDA has no vision. I had gone to Delhi to pay homage to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee as I was a minister in his Cabinet. Earlier, the NDA held meetings regularly. Now, they are holding a meeting only after the INDIA bloc meeting,” said Nitish days ahead of the INDIA alliance meeting in Mumbai.
August 26, 2023: “They (BJP) know very well that the Opposition were earlier scattered and now are united after my initiative. They are feeling threatened because they will have to face loss due to a united Opposition. This is also the reason the BJP leaders keep attacking me but I really don’t care what they say about me and I will keep working,” said Nitish when asked about the BJP’s frequent attacks.
August 28, 2023: “I don’t want to become anything. I have been telling you this again and again. I have no such desire. I just want to unite everyone. I will be going (to the meeting). I do not want anything personal. Some other parties will be joining (the meeting),” said Nitish on being asked before INDIA bloc’s meeting in Mumbai if he will be its convener.
September 1, 2023: “The BJP wants to change the country’s history. Our aim is to strengthen the country and ensure welfare of all sections of society. We are moving expeditiously. Elections (to the Lok Sabha) can be held early and we have to be alert,” said Nitish on why the Centre had called for a five-day special session of Parliament during September 18-22.
September 2, 2023: “It has not begun the census so far. But, as per norms, it should have been completed long back. This government has time for all other things but not for the caste survey and census,” said the Bihar CM, slamming the BJP for delaying census and not undertaking a caste census in the country.
December 6, 2023: “The Congress has performed well in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh. These things happen in electoral politics. Earlier, there were Congress governments in these states… Now BJP has won. There is no need to discuss much on such issues. The Congress has won Telangana this time,” replied Nitish when asked about the BJP’s sweep in the three Hindi heartland states in the Assembly polls.
December 25, 2023: “At the (INDIA) meeting the issue (of naming a leader came up). I made it clear at the outset that I was not interested. Then another name was proposed, I said it was okay with me. Just look at the progress my government is making. I had promised 10 lakh jobs and we are already halfway through,” said Nitish on AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s name being proposed as the PM face of the INDIA alliance at its Delhi meeting held on December 19.
