Private parties encroached 38,947 acres of govt land in Bengaluru Urban district: Karnataka revenue dept | Bangalore News

The Karnataka Revenue Department has pegged the extent of government land encroached on in the Bengaluru Urban district by private parties at a whopping 38,947 acres. The number of cases related to these encroachments was 14,660.

According to data tabled in the Legislative Council by the Revenue Department in response to a question by MLC Y A Narayanaswamy, Yelahanka taluk had the highest encroachment with 12,764 acres (1,253 cases), followed by Anekal taluk at 10,531 acres (1,226 cases).

Among other taluks of Bengaluru, 8,090 acres (6,759 cases) was encroached in Bengaluru South taluk, 4,475 acres (4,762 cases) in Bengaluru East taluk and 3,086 acres (660 cases) in Bengaluru North.

Encroachments were also rampant in the Bengaluru Rural district, where private parties illegally occupied a total of 12,609 acres. There were a total of 8,647 cases with respect to these encroachments. The area of government land encroached in the two districts was 51,555 acres.

Over the years, encroachments in 16,486 acres of land, pertaining to 4,874 cases, were cleared. Similarly, in Bengaluru Rural, the government has cleared encroachments in 11,778 acres related to 7,560 cases.

Festive offer

Data also showed that the total government land encroached across the state was around 14.72 lakh acres. This was almost a fourth of the total available government land in the state at 63.32 lakh acres.

Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that action is being initiated against officials who facilitated such encroachment. “It is unfortunate that government officials are hand in glove with the land mafia and are illegally handing over the land to them. The state government has initiated stern action against such corrupt officials,” he said.
