Puducherry Govt to Submit Cyclone Impact Report to Centre: CM Rangasamy
Puducherry CM N Rangasamy announced that a report is being prepared to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Fengal, which will be sent to the Centre for relief. Schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal remained closed on Monday, according to Home Minister A Namassivayam.
Cyclone Fengal landed near Puducherry on 30th November and weakened on Sunday, but heavy rains caused severe flooding.
The Army evacuated stranded people from waterlogged streets.
Four people lost their lives, according to officials.
The power supply, disrupted across the region, was restored gradually on Monday morning.
Flooded areas included Venkata Nagar, Kamaraj Nagar, Vallalar Salai, Kamarajar Salai, and several residential colonies.
CM Rangasamy and Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan inspected the affected areas.
A damage assessment report will be sent to the Centre for relief aid.
Puducherry recorded its heaviest rainfall in 50 years, according to District Collector A Kulothungan.
Relief camps were set up, and isolated people, including seniors, were evacuated and provided with food packets.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Army personnel helped evacuate.
Voluntary organizations, like the Pondicherry Heritage Round Table 167, assisted in preparing and distributing food packets at the camps.
