After receiving the panel’s report, the WCD on Saturday issued notices to two department-appointed JJB members.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Juvenile Justice Board of Pune had extended the remand of the minor in the observation home for 14 more days, citing his ongoing psychological counselling at the facility. The juvenile will thus remain at the observation home till June 25, when the next hearing will be held.

Two IT engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta, both 24 and from Madhya Pradesh, were killed after a speeding Porsche car driven by a 17-and-a-half-year-old boy in an inebriated state hit their motorcycle at Pune’s Kalyani Nagar junction around 2.30 am on May 19.

Following his detention after the accident, the minor was produced before the JJB in Pune on the afternoon of May 19. Police had sought his custody in the juvenile observation home and had also appealed that he be tried as an adult. The JJB — which consisted of just one non-judicial member on Sunday instead of its full strength of three including one judicial member — had rejected both applications and had granted bail to the accused on various conditions including writing an essay, studying traffic safety norms and undergoing de-addiction counselling.
