R Madhavan defends Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein against western criticism
When Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, starring R. Madhavan and Dia Mirza, was first released, it didn’t do well at the box office. But over time, it developed a loyal fanbase. While audiences initially loved the characters, some later questioned the lead character’s actions—lying to and stalking the woman he loves. Madhavan recently addressed this, stating that he doesn’t agree with the criticisms about “green flags” and “blue flags,” calling them the concerns of “useless people.”
In an interview with Mashable India, Madhavan explained that the film was being judged unfairly by a “Western yardstick.” He felt that modern concepts, especially from Western culture, didn’t apply to the Indian context of that time, and he didn’t think the film should be criticized based on those standards.
