Veteran actor Ranjeet has recently revealed that Parveen Babi was the first choice for Jaya Bachchan’s role in the 1981 movie Silsila. During an interview with a leading publication, the actor spoke about his bond with Parveen Babi. He revealed that Babi was upset when she was not cast in the Silsila.
He also revealed that the two actresses, Jaya Bachchan and Rekha were apparently cast in the movie due to a “gimmick controversy.” The actor added that Babi was the original heroine, but she was asked to leave. They later cast Rekha and Jaya Bachchan, otherwise the cast comprised Amitabh Bachchan, Parveen Babi, and Rekha.
While the movie did not have Parveen Babi in the cast, it went on to become one of the most popular movies of Bollywood. The plot gave way to numerous rumours and public scrutiny, but the movie still enjoys its superiority, as one of the best ’80s movies globally.
