Rohit Shetty plans to make a standalone cop universe film starring Deepika Padukone

Rohit Shetty has established a successful cop cinematic universe with films like Singham, Singham Returns, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, featuring Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar, respectively. The latest addition to this universe is Singham Again, where Deepika Padukone debuts as Shakti Shetty, a fierce and violent police officer, marking the first time a female cop takes the lead in Shetty’s films. Despite the film’s star-studded cast, Shetty has revealed that Deepika Padukone plays a pivotal role and plans to create a standalone film dedicated to her character.

In a recent interview, Rohit Shetty shared that Deepika Padukone is considered one of the heroes in Singham Again, and the plan is to develop a film centred solely around her character. Shetty explained the approach of introducing characters in Singham Again and then delving into their individual stories, similar to the narrative structure of Sooryavanshi, Singham, and Simmba.

The cast of Singham Again includes renowned actors such as Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Shetty, having worked with most of them, discussed how he convinced them to be part of the project. He singled out Tiger Shroff as a new addition to the force and emphasised that actors trust him not only for business reasons but also believe their roles will be handled with respect.

Addressing the trend of large ensemble casts, Shetty acknowledged the influence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how actors now understand that such films don’t overshadow their individual stardom. He highlighted the audience’s enjoyment of multi-starrer films and emphasised the importance of maintaining cultural continuity in characters across films, citing the consistent dialect used by Ranveer’s character in Simmba as an example. Shetty believes that the audience, being more discerning, already has a strong connection with these characters.
