Over two lakh property tax defaulters will face action such as sealing and confiscation of their properties in the industrial city of Pimpri-Chinchwad in the next one and half months, the PCMC administration has said.

”There are 2.18 lakh owners who have not paid their arrears that collectively amount to Rs 770 crore,” PCMC Assistant Municipal Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh told The Indian Express.

Deshmukh said arrears of many of the defaulters have been pending for 8 to 10 years. ”Some of the owners have not paid their arrears despite the fact that they are living in good financial condition,” he said.

In the 2023-24 financial year, the PCMC tax department had collected Rs 746 crore as tax revenue. For the 2024-25 fiscal, the property tax department had set a target of collecting Rs 1,000 crore.

”We are making all efforts to meet our target of Rs 1000 crore this fiscal. For this year, we had implemented an aggressive campaign through social media, the newspaper and television media. Every zone office was given a daily target of sealing and confiscating properties. The campaign will be intensified further,” Deshmukh said.
