Spill The Feels: SEVENTEEN commits to spreading love in new EP
From Eyes On You to Water, the songs take us on a trip down nostalgia lane, while keeping us energetic with catchy and rhythmic beats.
Eyes On You
Eyes On You may rightly take one back to SEVENTEEN’s Lucky. The song has a similar beat, but the voices seem much more confident in Eyes On You than in Lucky. It is a dance worthy track that is heavy on house beats. The beats grow faster around the pre-chorus and reaches its climax around the centre of the chorus. The members sing “Eyes on you, Eyes on me” in their fuller voices.
LOVE, MONEY, FAME (ft. DJ Khaled)
SEVENTEEN’s new title track is anything but bland. Partnering with DJ Khaled was a smart choice for the boyband, as the vibes in the song are immaculate. The mid-tempo track comes with engaging hooks that keep you grooving throughout. While the band did not seem to experiment with LOVE, MONEY, FAME, it is catchy enough to keep your attention till the first chorus. The song feels repetitive after a point, but the rap-to-singing parts between Vernon and Mingyu bring in a fresh vibe.
1 TO 13
1 TO 13 is a heartwarming song with Miami bass, a subgenre of hip-hop. Interestingly, the song has been placed right after the energetic LOVE, MONEY, FAME. It offers a heartfelt tribute to moments from the group’s debut to their journey till date.
Candy
You would think a song named Candy would have hearty lyrics, but SEVENTEEN’s Candy is not so jolly. The twinkling ballad, sung by DK, Seungkwan, Joshua, Woozi and Jeonghan is different from the other songs of the EP. The lyrics are more subtle and speak about heartbreak. “Maybe love is meant to be bitter / I don’t like it, what should I do?/ As much as becoming an adult / Love is tough, too,” the members sing.
Rain
Hoshi, Dino, The8 and Jun’s Rain could be the title track as well. The song has a retro vibe, layered with bass and city pop sounds. “I’m standing alone in a forest of people / Looking for someone to understand my heart,” The8 sings, while Dino joins with, “The bright day brings me no joy at night / I sat in an empty room with the lights off.”
Water
Mingyu, S.Coups, Wonwoo, a.k.a SEVENTEEN’s hip-hop unit delivered great rap and vocals in the mini album’s last song, Water. “I stand on oceans / I walk on water, you’re floundering,” they sing. While the track has a catchy beat, it finishes off faster than expected.
