On Monday, December 16, 2024, his family officially confirmed that tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, who had risen to international fame, passed away in San Francisco at the age of 73 from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. ANI confirmed and wrote, “Zakir Hussain, one of the world’s most transcendent musicians, has passed away at the age of 73.”
The Indian artist received acclaim at several prestigious international award shows, and in 2023, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Vibhushan. When Zakir Hussain’s declining health became widely known, his admirers became extremely concerned.
