…Although the film relies heavily on Salman’s heroic abilities it does get tiresome towards the end. But what makes it entertaining is Emraan Hashmi’s character Aatish Rehmani. Every hero needs a worthy villain, and director Maneesh Sharma can use Emraan’s crooked smile and his cunning avatar to make Aatish come across as a man whose emotions have shut down….

…Both John Abraham in Pathaan and Emraan Hashmi in Tiger 3 have a backstory that justifies what they did and what they ultimately became. They were victims that chose to walk on the streets of villainy and fire. And both embodied their characters with swag and style. But this is about the past. Yash Raj Films is far from done with their universe. We still have War 2 left, and maybe Pathaan 2 and possibly Tiger 4. And before we can even see what lies in these movies, it’ll be all over social media. How about Pathaan, Tiger, and Kabir joining hands to combat social media menace? And do more action and less talking? But only for the slick action and the final surprise post end credits (and Salman Khan’s aura), here’s an extra-half star….

…It would have been even bigger with a better villain. Emraan Hashmi is not bad, but he is not able to bring out the angst of being humiliated by his own country, something John Abraham did so well in Pathaan. But Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan are in good form, and it’s nice to see Revathy, Salman’s romantic interest in 1991’s Love, now as his boss. If 007 reported to M, Tiger reports to MM (that’s what her initials are). Comparisons to Bond and the Mission: Impossible series are inevitable, but Tiger 3 stands on its own. …The silver lining of Tiger 3 is that it continues to dream up a world in which, despite the devastation, there is hope. Here, women become heads of states, honour is a bond between spies no matter what agency they report to, and peace is a possibility between warring nations. If only the fantasy could extend to giving us a lead who is a hero rather than a star….
