Uttar Pradesh Floods Affect 732 Villages, 11 New Fatalities In 24 Hours

Over 700 villages in Uttar Pradesh have been impacted by flooding as rivers remain swollen, with 11 deaths reported from rain-related incidents within 24 hours leading up to Friday evening, according to officials from the state’s relief department.

According to news agency PTI, officials noted that the state experienced an average rainfall of 7.5 mm during this time. Among the casualties, 6 individuals drowned, while 2 died from lightning strikes and 2 from snakebites. Additionally, one person died due to flood-related circumstances.

The relief department indicated that the rain has caused water levels in several rivers to rise, leading to flooding in 732 villages across 17 districts. Urban areas in Shahjahanpur and Bareilly were also flooded, affecting traffic on the Lucknow-Bareilly highway in Shahjahanpur due to significant road inundation. Similar issues were also noted in Bareilly district.

“Teams of the NDRF and the SDRF are coordinating with the local administration to mitigate flood-related issues in the affected areas. We have set up flood relief camps for affected people,” State Relief Commissioner Naveen Kumar said, as per PTI. 

UP Records 54 Deaths Due To Lightning, Snake Bite, And Drowning Between Wednesday-Thursday

A total of 54 people died due to lightning, snake bites, and drowning in Uttar Pradesh within a single day, according to the state’s relief commissioner’s office on Friday. These deaths occurred between 7 PM on Wednesday and 7 PM on Thursday, with the majority resulting from lightning strikes on Wednesday, PTI reported.
