Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the landslides-hit Wayanad region in Kerala on Saturday. He was accompanied by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister Suresh Gopi.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi reached the Kannur airport and proceeded for the aerial survey in an Air Force chopper.

Modi is set to reach the disaster-struck Chooralmala village by road from Kalpetta to inspect the Bailey bridge constructed by the Indian Army after the July 30 landslides. The prime minister will also visit the Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences at Meppadi to meet the injured undergoing treatment. Before returning to Kalpetta for a review meeting, PM Modi will visit one of the relief camps.

The state government had on Friday stated that it would seek Rs 2,000 crore aid from the Union Government for the rehabilitation of Wayanad landslide victims. A Central Government team had visited the affected areas on Friday.

The Cabinet sub-committee for Wayanad rehabilitation said families housed in relief camps set up at schools will be shifted out soon. As many as 125 houses including government quarters have been identified for lodging them.
