Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday slammed state Rural Development Minister Girish Mahajan for his remarks on why Uddhav Thackeray had not been invited to the Ram temple inauguration in Ayodhya in January, saying that the BJP leader should first explain what his contribution to the Ram Mandir movement was.

“Those who are asking what is the contribution of Uddhav Thackeray should first tell us what is their contribution to the Ram Mandir movement?… When the Ayodhya movement was going on, those who consider themselves warriors today had run away from there (after the Babri Masjid demolition). At that time, Bal Thackeray came forward and said ‘I am proud of Shiv Sainiks who have done this work for Ram temple…’,” Raut said.

Mahajan had said that Uddhav should not feel bad about not being invited as he was an ordinary MLC and the invite was only for VVIPs. “The government is only inviting VVIPs for the inauguration. Uddhav Thackeray has not played any role in the kar seva or even in the entire process of building the Ram temple. It seems the government has, therefore, not invited him. He should not feel bad about it. I had been to kar seva several times and was also lodged in jail whereas Uddhav was only sitting at home… he has not even visited Ayodhya,” Mahajan said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders had slammed the government for not including Uddhav in the VVIP guest list for the temple inauguration event. On Monday, Raut claimed that Uddhav had not been invited due to the BJP’s reluctance and those who had contributed to the Ram Mandir struggle were excluded while others who had no involvement were celebrating.

Raut also pointed out that senior BJP leaders like L K Advani and others had played a major role in the Ram Mandir movement, and not the current BJP leaders. He also hit out at the BJP over a poster where Prime Minister Narendra Modi has purportedly been depicted as an avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Festive offer

“It seems that the only VIP devotee of Lord Rama is Narendra Modi. BJP has printed a poster saying that he is taking Lord Rama’s finger to the Ram temple. It is as if Modi is an avatar of Vishnu. This is the shamelessness of the BJP. This poster will hurt the sentiments of crores of Ram devotees…When the battle of Ayodhya was going on, these VIP devotees ran away, shrugging off the responsibility of the fall of Babri Masjid,” Raut said.

“At that time, Bal Thackeray had said that if there were Shiv Sainiks who had demolished Babri, he was proud of them. Balasaheb took that responsibility. All these cowards who fled after the collapse of Babri should not teach us Hinduism. They started sweating after the fall of Babri…So, we know who is the VIP and who is the hypocrite in Hindutva. Also, no one needs to invite Uddhav Thackeray since we were in the Ayodhya movement before the BJP,” he said.
